This five-day mini-break is ideally suited for families eager to experience the cosmopolitan city of Cape Town and a memorable getaway in the African bush. Start your holiday basking in the sun on world-class swimming beaches, discover the sparkling Atlantic Ocean in any number of ways, and admire the views of the entire Cape Peninsula from iconic Table Mountain. After having your fill in the Mother City, jet off to the North West Province for a first-rate family safari in the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve.

Itinerary

Day 1 – 3: Fly to Cape Town

Kick off your family holiday at the President Hotel in Bantry Bay, set along a glorious stretch some call the “Cape Riviera”. With spacious, luxury apartments to suit all ages, you can relax on the sunny pool deck while the kids keep busy in one of the hotel’s dedicated play areas. Pizza-making classes and fun-filled activities at the Kids Club are other ways your children are indulged at your stayover in Africa’s most picturesque city. From the hotel, you can easily explore the ecologically diverse Table Mountain National Park on foot, via the aerial cableway or from even higher above in a paraglider. There are plenty of beautiful white-sand beaches within easy reach like Clifton 4th Beach, where you’re likely to rub shoulders with Cape Town’s rich and famous! From the beach, you can stroll along the Camps Bay promenade and take your pick from the many world-class eateries on the strip. Your hotel is also close to Cape Town’s historic City Bowl and the V&A Waterfront, where shopping and entertainment abound. Activities from live theater to gemstone collecting, helicopter rides and sunset cruises in Table Bay, make the Mother City easy for the whole family to enjoy. Also, keep a keen eye out for Cape fur seals lolling on the quays or visit the Cape Town Aquarium to meet fish with fabulous names like scribbled leatherjacket, old woman angelfish and longfin batfish.

Day 3 – 5: Fly to Jaci’s Safari Lodge in Madikwe Game Reserve

Swap the city for the pristine wilderness of malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, one of the foremost conservation areas in Africa. Situated near the Kalahari Desert, close to South Africa’s border with Botswana, Jaci’s Safari Lodge is a wonderful place for your family to make the most of everything the African bush has to offer. It has two luxury family suites: the Nare Suite, which accommodates up to six guests, and the Safari Suite, suitable for eight; making Jaci’s ideal for a multigenerational safari. Both family suites have secluded plunge pools, mosaic baths, outdoor showers and viewing decks. With access to a private guide and vehicle, you’re guaranteed a highly exclusive safari experience with the utmost freedom and flexibility. Aside from the highly endangered white rhino, which you might spot on your twice-daily game drives, Madikwe is also home to rare animals such as the African wild dog. Turning your gaze to the big blue sky, you might spot spectacular raptors such as the African fish eagle, black-breasted snake eagle and lappet-faced vulture, the largest of its kind in Africa. During downtime at the lodge, you can indulge yourself with a massage at the Masala Spa, while your children play foosball, table tennis and board games to keep themselves entertained.
