Itinerary
Day 1 - 2
Upon your arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport your family will be welcomed by a member of the &Beyond team who will drive you into vibrant Nairobi. The only city in the world with a national park on its doorstep, Nairobi is the hub of East Africa and is packed with unique attractions, from bustling markets to fascinating historical sites such as the Karen Blixen Museum (known for chronicling her life in her most famous book, Out of Africa). Cherish a visit to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and adopt an elephant…and meet your gentle giant Take a tour of the Giraffe Centre, gain insight into the conservation efforts for the Rothschild giraffe, and even get to feed a giraffe
Day 2 - 7
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Wilson airport in time for your flight to the Masai Mara at 10am on a scheduled flight and we touchdown at Ol-Kiombo Airstrip after a short 1-hour flight. From there we are transferred by road to our base camp situated in the actual Mara itself. You will be staying in a classic East African style safari camp consisting of canvas tents, staffed by local Masai. You will have ensuite bathrooms with flush loos, flowing water and hot showers. While traditional, the camp is comfortable with large beds and private verandahs. In the afternoon we will enter the reserve for the first time and sample one of Africa’s greatest ecosystems. The camp is designed for solo travellers, couples and small groups looking for complete exclusivity, as guests can view wildlife directly from their tents’ private verandahs. The eight tents are raised on a platform, so each guest tent has views of the wildlife. Pathways to the guest tents were moved to the rear to allow for more privacy. The Private Wing boasts a bar, lounge, dining mess tent, a viewing deck, a photographic area equipped with Apple iMacs and an LCD projector and charging facilities. Complimentary high-speed WiFi and house drinks and wines are also included. Hot Air Ballooning is an activity that is available while on your stay at Entim - There is nothing that epitomises the Masai Mara experience more than floating over the golden savanna dotted with animals in a hot air balloon. It’s truly a bucket list experience and we advise you to book this excursion at the same time as your accommodation to ensure a place. A Masai Mara Village visit can be arranged - You will never realise how different Masai life is from your own until you visit a Masai village. As the village lies outside the National Reserve an hour from camp, your game drive is enroute to the village. Bring cash as the ladies display all sorts of crafts for sale, including colourful ethnic beadwork. Ask your guide about protocols of taking photographs. You can book this excursion in advance or while you are at camp. You have the option to stay in camp and get the very best out of your safari by rejuvenating in the Entim SPA.
Day 7 – 11
After your last game activity, you will be road transferred to the Alex Walker Serian ‘the original’ camp for your stay. Over the next couple of days you will enjoy morning and afternoon game drives. An all-day drive can also be well worth a try: it unfolds the possibility of roaming further afield, and covering some of the diverse landscapes around and about. You can stay out from dawn till dusk, or simply see where the day takes you and come home when you’re ready – the choice is always yours.
Day 11
After your last game activity, you will be transferred to the airstrip in time for your scheduled flight back to Nairobi. Upon your arrival you will be transferred back to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, in time for your international flight home. This is unfortunately the end of your safari!
