Itinerary

Day 1 – 4: Fly to Kanana Camp in the Okavango Delta

Fly over the watery wilderness in a small plane to Kanana Camp, set within a glorious private concession in the southwest of Botswana’s Okavango Delta. Your luxurious tented accommodation is ethically built on this wildlife-rich wetland with a lush network of channels, floodplains and woodlands. At camp, there is a thrilling variety of land and water activities on offer for your whole family to enjoy. Get out and explore this pristine inland river delta on daily 4x4 game drives with an expert guide and tracker to ensure you don’t miss any wildlife, big and small. Or take a motorboat safari for a renewed perspective of the Delta or a slow ride in a mokoro (wooden canoe) equipped with a glass bottom for easy underwater viewing. Kanana Camp is especially accommodating for children and runs a Young Explorer’s Safari Program where your kids can benefit from learning basic bush survival skills and how to track animals in the wild. With a private safari vehicle and guide on hand, you’re always ready to go on a family bush adventure. Other memorable family moments might be sharing breakfast overlooking a hippo-filled lagoon or toasting at sunset to the end of a perfect day.

Day 4 – 7: Fly to Mashatu Lodge in Mashatu Game Reserve

Your next safari stop is Mashatu Lodge tucked away in the easternmost corner of Botswana. This unassuming gem is renowned for its massive elephant herds, beautifully contrasting landscapes and predators on the prowl. Set out on game drives in search of elephant, lion, leopard and over 350 bird species that call this unspoilt paradise their home. Other family-friendly ways to explore this unchartered terrain are by foot, bicycle or horseback. Mashatu Lodge’s large swimming pool is a welcome refuge for refreshing afternoon dips and daily recuperation between safari activities. Make sure you don’t miss the Discovery Room with its eclectic collection of animal specimens and rare bush artefacts, where you can turn the clock back on an ancient world predating modern man. It’s easy to lose all sense of time while you lounge on the deck of your tented family suite or soak in the bathtub listening to the calming sounds of the bush. The daily ritual of witnessing the African sunset before enjoying dinner under the stars will bond you with nature and the loved ones in your life.
