Shem Compion has been travelling across Africa for over 22 years. Firstly as a photographer, and in recent years with his family. Professionally, he uses his intricate knowledge of travel in Africa, its wildlife and fantastic locations to give his guests the best insight into Africa you can get. Shem runs the daily operations of Nurture Africa, bringing his extensive travel, logistics and operations experience into helping the team create exceptional family experiences across Africa. Shem and his wife Zendré travel broadly across the continent – sharing their own love for travel with their 2 children, whilst nurturing them about all this great continent has to offer them and how to respect it.

Janet has an insatiable wanderlust and has travelled extensively throughout Africa and the world. She started her career working for international hotel chains both locally and abroad. A nature lover at heart, Janet later qualified as a nature and trails guide and moved from large hotels to the more intimate safari industry. This combined experience in the hospitality industry has given her invaluable insight into what makes a safari experience truly special. Janet left the operations side of the industry to spend more time with her family and she now invests her energy into making sure she helps others experience the thrill of travelling to Africa. Known as “the matriarch” in the office, Janet will nurture even the first time safari-goer through a trip of a life time. Her professional motto has remained the same throughout her journey and that is, to exceed expectations.

Minette is a nature enthusiast who grew up on a nature farm outside Pretoria. Her love for nature, wildlife, and travel led her to join our company in 2008, where she has been an integral member of the team ever since. In addition to being a Safari Specialist, Minette manages all operations and logistics in the office. She brings her wealth of experience and passion for travel to create unforgettable family travel experiences across Africa. Minette has been fortunate enough to travel to various destinations across the continent, including the Masai Mara, the Okavango Delta, Chobe, Zambia, and the Sabi Sands. When she is not busy with office administration or tour management, you can find her exploring the great outdoors on her mountain bike or with her running shoes.

Angelica grew up in South Africa, has been travelling across South Africa since she can remember and completed her studies in Tourism Management. She has always been very passionate about travelling and exploring and is a big fan of safaris. Angelica is a Nurture Africa specialist, she is well-travelled in Africa with experience in South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania, and Kenya. Her favourite place is Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana. As a specialist she has been organising safaris since 2016 and loves sharing her love and knowledge of Africa with travellers!

Her passion to assist others in wilderness areas, since 2017, led her to volunteer on environmental education programmes, within the Northern Tuli Game Reserve, where Mashatu Game Reserve is located. Angelica became an integral part of the team, teaching photography to over a hundred children who live on the outskirts of the reserves, some of who are now working directly within the Northern Tuli reserves as a result of their interaction with the environmental education programme.

Angelica, alongside a team of experienced directors and advisors have now established their very own environmental education programme called – Bana ba Bobirwa.

BbB aims for the children who live in the communities around the reserve to be wholly inspired to strive to achieve their utmost potential, so that their enthusiasm and new ideas are shared with their families and communities. This in turn fosters acceptance and interest from more local people to be involved in conservation of their natural environment and tourism in the area.

Growing up with a love for nature and a particular fondness for giraffes, Colette developed a deep appreciation for the beauty and complexity of the world around her. This curiosity and adaptability have translated seamlessly into her professional life.

Colette’s background and experiences have shaped her into an invaluable asset. Despite holding a secretarial diploma, her career has taken her through various work environments, allowing her to gain diverse experiences and skills. However, her true passion lies in administration, where she excels and thrives.

Whether it’s locating a hard-to-find item or quickly producing a crucial document, Colette approaches each situation with determination and efficiency. Affectionately known as the “proverbial third hand” of the team, she is always ready to lend assistance and support whenever needed.

Colette’s love for nature, combined with her professional experiences and passion for administration, makes her a perfect fit for our team.

Zuko grew up in the friendly province of the Eastern Cape where he studied Tourism Management. Zuko chose tourism because it covers a wide range of business and activities including tour operators, travel agencies, resorts, hotels, airlines and the entertainment industry to mention a few. It’s one of the industries that contributes towards job creation and provides the economy with spin off benefits. Zuko loves South Africa with it’s beautiful scenic views, natural attractions and the amazing beaches. He was fortunate enough to do his in-service training at South African Airways in East London.

When South Africa won the bid for the 2010 FIFA World Cup he saw a great opportunity to be part of the industry. He worked for the FIFA Confederation Cup and FIFA World Cup on behalf of Tourvest Destination Management. This was an opportunity to show the whole world the multi-cultural diversity we have in this country.

Karolina was born in Windhoek, Namibia, where the vast desert landscapes and endless skies sparked her love for adventure. Eventually, she made her way to Cape Town, South Africa, where the majestic Table Mountain and vibrant city culture further deepened her connection to Africa’s natural wonders.

 As she traveled, she realized her true passion was not just about exploring, it was about helping others experience the magic of Africa. Karolina began planning unforgettable trips, uncovering hidden gems, from safaris to breathtaking landscapes. Each journey allowed her to connect visitors with the land, its people, and wildlife, making Africa feel like home.

Every trip she designs is more than just a vacation; it’s an immersive experience into Africa’s beauty. Karolina’s mission is to ensure that each traveler leaves with lasting memories and a deeper love for this incredible continent.
