Family walking safaris

Explore the African wilderness on foot, observe wildlife, and create unforgettable memories.

Bush walks vs multi-day safaris

Bush walks are on the activity list at many safari accommodations in Africa and usually occur in close vicinity of the camp. These walks — which require a relatively low level of fitness — serve as an introductory purpose and last 1-2 hours. You are given a few basic rules to ensure your safety, and that of the animals, before setting off with your guide.

For a multi-day walking safari, you will trek through the bush with an armed guide and be on your feet for a good part of the day. Often your day’s walking will take you to the next camp, which is set up before you arrive by a crew that includes an experienced guide as well as a chef to prepare your meals. These more serious walks, led by well trained and experienced trails guides, can include approaching big game such as elephant and rhino. As such, they require a willingness to engage with nature and aren’t always for the faint-hearted.
